  • ✨NEW YEAR, NEW FOCUS: #shareyourwhy✨

For many years, too many years, I spent more time consumed with how I looked instead of how I felt. I was so wrapped up in food and exercise that I wasn’t aware of my energy. I needed to create space in my mind- just enough to gain some perspective. Just enough to realize I had the power within to shift my internal dialogue and could do so much more with the time and energy I was wasting! I could use that space in my brain to create. To dream!

I dreamt of building a community around mindful and intense movement that was welcoming, non-judgmental, and not at all about what you look like when you walk in the door. I dreamt of creating a movement that would force you to drop into the moment like nothing else. A movement that has a level of intensity and challenge that forces you to look at how you communicate with yourself.

Knowing that if you think you can’t – you probably can’t but – what if you allow yourself to lift yourself up? What if you said something positive to yourself? ABOUT yourself? What if you celebrate your strength? Not just in body, but in mind. If you can practice shifting your internal dialogue while being pushed to your physical limit – wouldn’t it be that much easier to shift your dialogue when life throws you curve balls?! A-HA! This is it. THIS is FierceMovement. THIS is my why.

It’s simple to say that my why behind creating Fierce45® and FierceMovement is “SelfLove” , but it has become so much more than that. It is a reflection of ME. This brand is my baby and my mirror; bringing me new successes and challenges each and every day – both on and off of the machine.

However, to this day the physical practice of FierceMovement never fails to shift my mind set – to make me FEEL good in my body and my mind and moreover in my spirit.  Plus, if you FEEL good – that radiates!!!! Your energy absolutely effects everyone around you. I am reminded of a quote my dear friend Jacki Carr shared with our team recently, “Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.” – Dr Jill Bolte Taylor. Now I know everyone has bad days, sad days, or just plain off days – I know I do. But I know I NEVER regret taking a class and I know I will always feel better if I do. My hope is that my energy, my vulnerability, and my creativity SPARKS flames in others.

With that being said, as we move into 2019 we are making the BADASS student photo wall NO LONGER about how many classes you have taken – because it’s not about that – but about your WHY. We want YOU to #shareyourwhy.

Be vulnerable with me. With Fierce. If it’s too scary – that’s ok. Write on the back of your photo so only you know. Or perhaps you will inspire someone else by being bold, vulnerable, and real. It doesn’t have to be deep, but the deeper you go the more you will benefit….just saying 😉

    With so much love,
    Torrey

  • 💦WATER – IT’S ALL THE RAGE💦

Do you find yourself hungry minutes after you just ate? Are you left feeling bloated? Is your skin looking dull? Do you feel sluggish and unenergized? It may come as a surprise, but the cure could be as simple as drinking more WATER

In general, when asked how much water people consume daily it is severely lower than what is “required” to keep your body hydrated. The suggested amount of water you should drink depends on your height, weight, and activity level, but the recommended amount is at least eight, eight ounce glasses a day.

It’s no secret that water is crucial for maintaining a healthy and well nourished body, but water can also curb those mid day cravings. You might be wondering, “How the heck is water going to satisfy my astronomically large snack habit?” I’ve been there, and trust me, it works.

Our bodies are approximately 60% water and when deprived of H2O, our body naturally searches for nutrients elsewhere…food. Drinking a sufficient amount of water signals your brain to feel full and satiated by hydrating your body and boosting your internal energy.

Water is not only beneficial in keeping you full and hydrated, it can also cure aliments such as headaches, drowsiness, mood, and body aches. When you are dehydrated your blood volume drops. Once this happens, the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain lowers and causes your brain to swell, ultimately resulting in raging headaches.

Dehydration not only causes physical pains, but also rapidly ages your skin. In order for your skin to stay hydrated and moisturized you have to start from the inside…what does that mean? You guessed it, water!

Water can sometimes feel boring and mundane, but do not fear, there are many healthy ways to spruce up your lackluster of water.

    1. Add fruit. I love cucumber, lemon, and jalapeño for an extra kick! Berries are always a great option, too.

    2. Mio fit. Or any flavored water additive that provides an added energy boost.

    3. Emergen-c. Get your vitamins and stay healthy with cold and flu season!

    4. Mint leaves. Need I say more?

A quick tip? Always make sure that you are carrying a water bottle…at all times. This will help increase your water intake and help decrease hunger cravings.

Many people experience daily issues such as drowsiness, lethargy, and inattentiveness. All of these symptoms can often be fixed by increasing water intake. Try drinking two large glasses of water first thing in the morning, and keep that water bottle on hand throughout the day to ensure you meet your hydration goals!

How long have you been teaching at Fierce45? An ambassador for a year and teaching for 4 months!

Three words to describe your classes?  Fun. Sweaty. Bootylicious.

Who/what is your spirit animal?  Jennifer Lawrence

Favorite workout/class music?  Fierce45/Power Lifting – Music that makes me want to dance!

Favorite move on the machine? Heavy AF Squats

What is your favorite thing about the Fierce45 community?  The love and sisterhood it has brought to my life and allowed me to give back, as well. Fierce embraces all bodies and doesn’t make you feel like you don’t belong, ever. We nurture and foster our client relationships and each other as much as we would our own family. You can feel the infectious energy as you walk in the door and as you leave you just know you want to be a part of it.

Why do you love teaching at Fierce45? As soon as I walked through the doors at fierce, I was as not only embraced; but motivated and inspired. I didn’t feel like another number; I felt like I was part of the team, and that my work and me, as a person, mattered. I became a coach to be able to give that same feeling to others and to grow in my own practice.

Why do you love Fierce Movement as a method?  A lot of workouts are monotonous and our bodies become used to it. Fierce is continually changing and evolving and it is hard every time. Torrey has created an empire of strong and inspiring women who push each other as coaches and as students. We are constantly thinking of new content for classes and adding new moves. I am lucky to be a part of a gym who has their clients best interests at heart.

Tell us a fun fact about you! I used to be a competitive power lifter and am a natural blonde 🙂

  • FIERCE FACTS: THE FIVE ELEMENTS OF FITNESS

There are five different elements to physical fitness and Fierce Movement covers all of them (obviously, because what doesn’t Fierce Movement cover). The five elements are: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

Cardiovascular endurance kicks in when we are in those pulses, lunging up and down getting our heart rate up, during the HIIT portion of class, and what feels like the full time during Core + Arms + Cardio. You might not feel the same out of breath feeling you get during a run or bike ride, but Fierce Movement is still great for cardiovascular endurance.

We are working on Muscle Strength during the entire class. From the first move where your core has to instantly engage to the last forty-five seconds of class. There is a not a move or moment that doesn’t require strength.

Muscular endurance is what allows us to keep moving for the entire class. Have you ever noticed how you take a week or two off and you’re immediately winded during your next class? That is what we call muscular endurance. All workouts are easier the more we do them, but we’ve never felt that idea is more true than it is with Fierce Movement.

Don’t get it twisted, the few stretches we do after class, aren’t the only time you’re getting flexibility at Fierce Movement. You are working on lengthening your muscles the whole time you are working to strengthen them.

Lastly, body composition, let’s be honest abs are made at Fierce Movement. Sure, what you eat helps them, but your body is made through shaking your way through the class. Consistently showing up and putting in the work is how lean muscle is created.

Fierce Movement does it all. There is a reason it’s hard every time.
