  • 🍁🍂 Leaning Into Seasonal Changes 🍂🍁

    By: Arnica Lande

This time of year, darker days and colder weather force many of us into new routines. The shift in schedules can look different for everyone, and while work may remain constant, our priorities in other areas of our lives might change. Maybe you trade your bike for your skis, the backyard BBQ for Thai delivery, or the weekend camp trip for a weekend of Netflix (and chill?). Maybe you hit the snooze through your morning workouts because it’s dark outside, and your bed is cozy. I mean, let’s be real, the Hygge trend gives us every reason to cuddle up and love a comfy nook. As we enter colder weather, lean into the seasonal changes and find healthy approaches to your evolving lifestyle.

If you’re feeling more lethargic lately, you’re not alone. Colder temps force us inside, and it’s okay to listen to your body and slow down. When you’ve had a busy summer, or year in general, that can be a challenge. Slowing down can feel less productive, but don’t fight the instinct to spend an evening inside with a book or cook a tasty meal. Productivity is relative, and when you prioritize your health and wellness by doing so, who’s to say you aren’t benefiting yourself or the people around you?

As we go from spending time outdoors to more time inside, we also want to get our daily dose of Vitamin D. A naturally occurring vitamin present in the sun’s UVB rays, Vitamin D has many benefits including fighting infection, decreasing inflammation, and boosting mood. Coloradans have the advantage of living in the sunniest state in the nation, so we’re not starving for this crucial vitamin. Since there’s no lack of recreational activities throughout the winter (including happy hours on the patio outside), we’re able to soak up those rays more often than others. However, along with spending time in the sunshine, the Harvard School of Public Health recommends a Vitamin D supplement to ensure you’re getting the proper dosage. You can find it at almost any local grocer, and then make it a point this winter to add to your daily vitamins to lift your mood and fight off infection.

We know that with a lifestyle change, finding a new routine or sticking to some parts of our old one can be good for our mental health. If you’ve experienced a lack of motivation to get your regular workouts in on darker days, then outside support may be what you need. Join the Fierce45 Gratitude Challenge in November to not only hold yourself accountable but give back to a good cause, too. Pay $10 to join and if you take 12 classes in 30 days (that’s just 3 classes/week), you’ll be entered to win 2 free months of classes to keep you going during those winter months. The best part? All proceeds are donated to Urban Peak, and with each initial $10 donation and challenge completion, Fierce will double the contribution. More reason to roll out of bed and hit that 6 am class, since you won’t only be benefiting yourself, but others, too!

Instead of letting the shift in weather rule your mood, find ways to love it (and yourself) throughout the season. A healthy dose of outdoor fun in the sun and snow, your Fierce workouts, and all the at-home Hygge vibes, allows for a feel-good season.

  • This month we are highlighting a coach who has been going above and beyond for our community by subbing like crazy across multiple studios – Lee Valdivia! Lee teaches a 🔥 class that everyone loves! She connects so well with the members of our community and we appreciate all that she contributes to our Fierce community. 1. How long have you been teaching at Fierce45?

I went through Coach Training in February 2020, but then the world shut down 😭 so I didn’t actually teach my first class until July 2020

    2. Three words to describe your classes.

      Spicy, Fast-paced, & wild 🤪

    3. What is your favorite move on the machine?

It’s so hard to pick just one, but I think because I’m crazy I’ll choose hero…but make it flying & off the back 😅

    4. What is your favorite thing about the Fierce45 community?

It for sure has to be the friends I’ve made. My training class became SO close: out of the five of us, we’ve gone to two Fierce weddings, two Fierce baby showers, two Fierce-givings & more on the way! Also, the clients that have turned into friends really have a special place in my heart 🫶

    5. Why do you love teaching at Fierce45?

Have I mentioned how much I love the clients? I wouldn’t get up at 4:30 am for too many people, but gosh they are so inspiring! The Fierce community truly feels so different than other places I’ve been apart of before & I’m so grateful for that!

She brings a bright contagious energy to the studio and we are thankful to have her part of our studios.

    1. How long have you been coming to Fierce45?
Since March of 2017, I think. I got sucked in during a 21/31 challenge.

    2. Favorite move on the machine?
Donkey Kick (bungee)… do we still call it that?

    3. How has Fierce made a positive impact on your life?
This movement has had an incredibly positive impact on my life. It has helped me focus during difficult times. Every move that makes me stronger reminds me how much I am capable of.

    4. Why do you choose Fierce over another workout?
It’s easy on the joints as you build leaner and longer muscles! What else can you ask for? Endorphins!?! Yep, plenty of those to go around!

Let’s not forget the Fierce Fam! Coming into the studio feels like a visit to a friend’s home (until the workout begins).

    5. Tell us a fun fact about you!
I’m a gardener!! Can you believe it? I grow veggies and share them with my neighbors.

  • This month we are thrilled to celebrate a rockstar member of our community and a badass wedding planner off of the machine, Kara Delay! Kara always shows up to class with a smile on her face and is always ready to work hard! Overall, her presence and dedication contribute so much to our Fierce community, and we are excited to celebrate her. 🎉

    1. How long have you been coming to Fierce45?

3 years. A lovely friend took me to a class in the summer of 2019 and I got hooked.

    2. Favorite move on the machine?

      Sprinter – it’s just awesome.

    3. How has Fierce made a positive impact on your life?

Fierce has been so good for me (physically and mentally).  During the ickiest times of Covid lockdown, there were days that Fierce was the only time I actually saw people outside of zoom meetings.  Even through masks, it was just so good to actually be around people!  The community of teachers and students is remarkable, and inspiring and keeps me coming back (and no… it does not get easier!). And …it has made me a much stronger skier.

    4. Why do you choose Fierce over another workout?

The convenience of multiple class times and so many locations.  The punctuality is so great for those of us that overschedule our lives down to the minute and … you usually do not need to get a blowout after class 🙂

    5. Tell us a fun fact about you!

Halloween marks my 20-year anniversary of moving to Colorado for “just one ski season.”

  • 📏🍎📚 Back to School 📚🍎📏

    By: Arnica Lande

Growing up, “Back to School” signified a new wardrobe, the fresh smell of unused notebooks, and if you were fancy, the multicolored pen. These things added to the excitement of a new school year, including seeing friends post-summer break and finding a new routine with fall sports and after-school clubs, all while embracing cooler weather. There’s no reason for the excitement to stop once reaching adulthood, though. After what felt like three summers worth of activities shoved into one (hello all the rescheduled pandemic weddings), autumn is a welcome season and the perfect time to invest in yourself.

Revisit your yearly intention. Remember the intention you set back in January? Take some time to reflect and journal about how you’ve lived that intention this year so far and how you can continue embracing it while reaching your 2022 goals. Use it as fuel as you enter a new season of life.

Shop like you’re going back to school. There are all sorts of ways to prepare – and spoil – yourself for fall that doesn’t involve the trapper keepers of the 90s. Maybe it’s a new pair of leggings for your workouts, or a fresh planner to help you find a new routine. Plan a “school” shopping day and treat yourself!

Sign up for classes. Remember class registration in college? Well, book your classes out for the next few months at Fierce! With everyone back from summer travels, classes are sure to be filled. As always, don’t fear the waitlist – we see a ton of movement around the cancellation windows, and you could be added into classes up to an hour before the start of class.

Make your home ready for fall. Once that cool September air hits, stores are overwhelmed with pumpkin décor. Find affordable gourds (and tasty fall treats!) at Trader Joe’s. Stock your kitchen with some local squash from the farmer’s market and light that pumpkin spice candle. Boom – fall has entered your home.

Schedule some autumn fun. Use the new planner you purchased and set aside some time to go leaf peepin’, apple picking, and cider drinking. With fall comes football, too, so save some weekends for the games! Even if you don’t actively follow, everyone loves a good Sunday Funday, right?

Capture the excitement of going back to school but make it #adult. Have fun celebrating the season and remember, fall signifies not only a shifting of the seasons but is also a great time to make a change in your personal life and revisit the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.

  • 🎉 August Coach of the Month: Kristina Davis 🎉

This month we are honored to celebrate a coach that is a true rock star in our Fierce community, Kristina Davis! She is the definition of a team player and we are so appreciative of her selflessness and dedication to the Fierce community! She is the most kind-hearted, level-headed, and down-for-anything person and we are so grateful to have her on the team. We are so lucky to have her on our coaching staff and we could not think of someone more deserving!

    Instagram handle: @kcodavis

    Spotify name: Kristina Davis

Teaching schedule: Hilltop Tuesdays 5:30a/6:30a HIIT/7:30a + RiNo Wednesdays 4:30p/5:30p

    1. How long have you been teaching at Fierce45?

Almost 4 years! I went through coach training Sept ’18

    2. What are three words to describe your classes?

      Energizing, Empowering, Connecting

    3. What is your favorite move on the machine?

      Side kneeling sprinter currently!

    4. What is your favorite thing about the Fierce45 community?

The long-term clients that I get to see week to week and hear about their lives, but also getting to meet new first-timers at Fierce and introduce them to this method and machine. Our community of coaches is amazing as well as our entire management team. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, fun, and really just an all-around BADASS.

    5. Why do you love teaching at Fierce45?

I love helping individuals connect with their bodies and get really intentional about movement. So often exercise is done by putting everything you got into making it happen, but when you really get mindful about where you’re engaging and the muscle group you’re targeting, you really get the maximum benefit. I always hope I can impart some of this in my classes!

    6. Tell us a fun fact about you!

I was a dance minor in college and grew up in the ballet studio! I love movement in all forms but have always been drawn to the performing arts.

    7. Besides Fierce45, what are 3 of your favorite things?

Cats (I have two!), mountains, and a really good cup of coffee
